Thermal paper receipts and parking tickets: what the coating can carry

Thermal paper is the slick receipt that prints with heat, not ordinary ink: grocery, pharmacy, ATM, shipping counter, parking ticket. The coating often carries BPA or BPS, chemicals in the same family as some can linings. They transfer to skin, then food, then a child's mouth. Decline the paper when you can. Wash hands before you eat. Do not let children play with receipts.
What to do
- Decline the receipt when you can — email, app, or simply no.
- Wash hands before eating if you handled one.
- Kids do not play with receipts or crumple them as toys.
- Parking tickets count. Same coating family, same hands.
- Keep a wad of receipts out of the food bag when you can.
Short answers
- Is every receipt thermal paper?
- No. The slick, almost waxy ones that print with heat usually are. A dull paper with wet ink often is not. If you are not sure, treat it as thermal and wash.
- BPA or BPS — does it stay in the body?
- BPA and BPS from a receipt are a short stay if you stop adding. The next ticket is the next dose. That is not a cleanse. It is fewer tickets and clean hands.
- Trying, pregnant, little lungs?
- Same kitchen. Different volume. Decline more often. Wash before a snack. Do not let a toddler mouth the parking slip.
